When I was 19 years old my best friend had died in a car accident. We had had a stupid argument a month before and both of us were too stubborn to give in. When we eventually tried neither of us could reach each other. Meanwhile she had called my mother and told her to tell me she loved me and if anything happened to her she wanted me there. Several months later tragically she passed away in a car accident. Devestatingly we had never made up from our argument. Another blow to me was the fact the accident was so bad we could not view her. Half not wanting to believe it was her and knowing it was, was really hard. A year latter I was laying in my bed getting ready to go to sleep. I turned out the light and closed my eyes. Suddenly I felt a faint wisper, my arms felt heavy, as though someone were holding them down. I did not want to open my eyes in fear. Finally I could faintly hear my friend saying 'I'm sorry and I love you'. Frieghtening as it was from tha! t day on I was able to accept my best friend's death more peacefully. Later I told my mother about this incident. Being of Italian decent she told me an old believe was if you let your windows stay open at night you invite the spirits in. Needless to say my windows were indeed open that night. How it changed my life:I was able to get over my guilt and loss of my friend by her comforting words.
