When I was 14/15 yrs olds, my friend Sandie and I had decided we were going to skip school...so we came up with this plan that when I was getting ready to go to school, I would tell my parents that I wasn't feeling well that today, but go to school anyway (at least make them think that) and Sandie, since she was driving, just wouldn't go at all, then when we got to where we were going to stay for the day, I would call my Mom and act like I was checking out of school to go home. Well, we get to where we are going, it was my biology and PE techer's house. My friend Sandie was dating his stepson. His house is just 3 blocks from the high school. So, we get there and I call my Mom and ask if I can check out and go home and that Sandie was taking me home because she was sick too, she said ok, I could go home. So, we are there a couple of hours and we are sitting on the couch just talking and cutting up when we hear the back door open...OH NO...Coach is home!! So, we run out the front door, the only problem is that I am on crutches and I can't run that fast, PLUS I forgot my crutches leaning against the wall, LOL now, but not then. So, after about 45 min. Coach leaves and we "think" we are in the clear. So, I tell Sandie we should go home anyway, just in case. She says Ok, so I go and sit in the car to wait on her so we can leave. So I'm sitting in the car and I see this truck turn on to the street and come towards the house, and I think to myself, that truck looks familiar....UH OH!!! It's my DAD! Coach went back to the school and called my Mom and Sandie's Dad (he worked for the school board at the time). So I think, my Dad didn't see me sitting here, so I'll duck down and hide....Yeah right, he came right up to the car and knocked on the window and asked me what I was doing, so I stuck to my story about me and Sandie both being sick and I was just waiting on Sandie, she wanted to see her boyfriend before we left town to go home. So my Dad says that I have 30 min. to get home and he leaves. I go in and tell Sandie what happened and so we leave and she takes me home (I'm really dreading going home 'cause I know I'm in BIG trouble). When I get there, I ask my Dad why he wasn't at work (he did road construction) and he said it was too cold to work that day and he asked me why I skipped school and I came clean with him about it. Then he asked me if I had seen what was going on on tv and I said no, so he turned on the tv and there was coverage of the Challenger when it blew up. I never did get in trouble by my Dad for skipping school, but my Mom was another story. Did I ever skip school again.....sure did, but I knew how to do it right after that. So, do you have a memory of skipping school?
