The game had never worked for me before and I thought I could scare my girlfriend with it. She and I played with it first in the study of her home. We dimmed the lights, leaving only a desk lamp on and surrounded ourselves with King James Version Bibles. We asked if any spirits were present and after a short time, the planchette moved to 'YES.' I hadn't moved it and I was convinced she had but the look on her face told me otherwise. I asked the usual question, but everything came back to be gibberish, nothing was any recognizable English word. I soon became bored and stopped. We went into the kitched and told her mother, sister, and cousin that it actually worked and we all rushed into the study, except her mother. My girlfriends sister and cousin sat in the floor and used the board while my girlfriend and I sat on the sofa. The planchette immediately sta! rted moving. It was a different 'spirit' than the one contacted earlier. This session lasted probably an hour. We were able to determine that this 'spirit' was a 19 year old German named Tim who had been shot by another man named Will over Tim's wife Betsy. Tim wanted us to find Betsy and tell her that Will killed him. However Tim said he died in 1898 and I knew Betsy was dead already. By the time all this was over, the four of us were really scared. I did not even want to take my board home that night. It was the next morning when strange things began to happen. My girlfriend said she though she heard someone walking up the stairs and thought it was her sister. She then heard the shower downstairs and knew it was not her and it was too early for her brothers to be awake. She said she went in the hall to see who it was and all she saw coming up the stairs was a shadow in the shape of a man. When it reached the top, it vanished. Later that week, on Friday night, my! girlfriend's mother was driving her to the high school football game when her mother said, 'Oh my God, there is someone in the backseat.' My girlfriend turned around and said, 'That is what I saw on the stairs. Move your head to see if it's our shadow.' The shadow did not move. Her mother turned on the lights and the shadow vanished. She turned the lights off and it was still gone, and has not been seen since. On Thanksgiving night, the four of us mustered up the courage to try out the old Ouija board again. We contacted the same two spirits, only to discover that the one talking gibberish was Betsy and so we told her that Tim had been murdered. Betsy left, so we talked to Tim a little while longer. We told Tim to give us a sign he was real and something began tapping in the corner. I could feel the hair on my neck stand on end. When the tapping stopped we asked Tim if that was him and the planchette moved to 'YES.' For some reason, I was not afraid anymore and I ! have never been frightened of the paranormal since. I have thought about checking death certificates at the county courthouse, but haven't found the time. We have not played with the Ouija board again since it was banned from my girlfriends house and it doesn't work at mine. We have not heard or seen from Tim again. How it changed my life: I am not as afraid of 'ghosts' as I was.
